LIFT OFF LEARNING SKILLS (LOLS)

Have you heard the news? LIFT OFF have launched a brand new programme for senior pupils in your school called LIFT OFF Learning Skills (LOLS). The project is being co-ordinated by Project Worker Fiona Reith.
LOLS will be available to pupils in the senior part of the school (S5/S6). The point of LOLS is to build upon your experiences from L02S. On L02S you learned about student life, but LOLS focuses more on the differences between college/university and the way students learn and study.
The LOLS Programme will help you to study at school and give you a head start when you go to college or university.
So what will happen on LOLS?
- Student tutors lead group sessions in school.
- You will learn and try out new techniques for internet researching, listening and note-taking.
- You get to attend a real lecture in one of our partner institutions.
- Learn about the types of writing you may be expected to produce.
- All pupils can access the on-line version of the programme through Glow.
What do our pupils think?
We asked our pupils both at the recent Pupil Forum and in an anonymous survey. Here's what they had to say about LOLS:
- It's pretty useful :).

- You get the opportunity to feel what it's like at a university.
- I think it's perfect as university might not be for everyone so a lecture would help people decide.
- It will allow me to understamd how college/university really operates and see how much of an independent learner you have to become.
As always with LIFT OFF there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss!
More information coming soon to a school near you :)
