volunteer frequently asked questions
Q: What will I actually be doing?
A: You will mostly be helping deliver our schools workshops programme that take place in our target schools. We also have on-campus activities, a summer programme where we employ students, and other projects that we are currently developing. We’ll keep you posted!
Q: How will this fit with my course work?
A: We operate on a first come, first served basis for workshops and events. You’ll receive an email with dates and times. If you can do the session email back and we’ll let you know.
Q: Do I need previous experience?
A: No. If you have it, then great, but enthusiasm and commitment matter much more.
Q: What sort of training and support will I get?
A: We will provide you with training before you begin volunteering with us. We will always offer you support during your time with us – please get in contact about anything and we will be here to help.
Q: I don’t agree that college or university are for everyone. Can I still participate?
A: Absolutely! We’re not about funnelling everyone into post-school education. However, we believe strongly that everyone is entitled to make the best possible choices about their own future based on accurate, relevant information.
Q: Do I need my own transport?
A: Not necessarily, though it is helpful if you do have. LIFT OFF will help out with lifts where we can, but this is by no means guaranteed.
Q: Is there a minimum number of events volunteers need to be involved in?
A: No. However we will remove people from our system who have done no workshops or events within a year.
Q: What do the workshops involve?
