In this next installment of the LIFT OFF Student Corner Blog, Sarah shares her tips on how to navigate student life at university or college. From study tips to financial advice, these tips will help you to be a successful student and strip the stress out of the process.
Studying at University or College – Avoid Distractions!

There are many study techniques out there and it is worth trying all of them. I personally don’t have a specific one, except going to the silent section in the library. At first, I studied in my room or went to the library with friends, but that just does not suffice when you have imminent deadlines. Everyone in the silent section will be locked in, which peer pressures you into being the most productive version of yourself. Conveniently, there is no bed, or other things to distract you either. If this is not available to you, try to ensure that you remove distractions by removing your phone or other technology from your study space, implement set timings for working and have set breaks to increase productivity and finally, ensure that you have a task list to mark off all upcoming deadlines and keep you on track.
Budgeting – The Best Ways To Cut Cost As A Student

If you are on a tight budget, it is helpful to have certain rules in place. For example, you only buy one coffee a week, or you don’t buy any snacks outside of set meal times. When you need something new, you have a look on vinted or in other second hand shops first. Being honest, I have to say this can also backfire into a vinted obsession, so be careful to only look for things you really require. You can save a lot of money by going to Aldi instead of Tesco for your weekly grocery shop (in case you aren’t catered) and refraining from buying animal products. Meal prepping lowers your cost per meal as well and saves you time in the kitchen. It has helped me to eat healthier because I don’t resort to quick pasta pesto every other day any more.
Campus Resources – Make The Most Of Them!

The good thing about being in university or college is that there are countless societies you can join or just show up at. As a result, you can explore various interests, meet many people that you share common interests with, and have almost no costs in the process. University will be the time of your life with the most accessible opportunities to join different causes, sports, or creative outlets in a community with similar aged and like-minded peers.
Simultaneously, these are the places you are most likely to find your best friends that will carry you through the first year and the ones to follow. The most important thing is to find people that support you and struggle with you. At times when you feel overwhelmed, lonely, or exhausted, these are the people that will help you through it. In case you need more help than your friends can offer, you always have opportunities to reach out to the university college. Institutions offer a variety of services and can provide help with mental health issues, finances, physical health, etc.
Final Thoughts

Student life is full of challenges, but also endless chances to grow, learn, and connect. In the end, what truly matters is surrounding yourself with good people and making the most of the journey along the way.
