LIFT OFF to success (LO2S)
LIFT OFF to Success (LO2S) is a one week residential programme designed to give young people who are still at school the chance to find out more - a lot more - about college and university.
The programme runs in the summer holidays and works with selected pupils from our partner schools who are moving from S3 to S4. During the week, the pupils visit many different partner colleges and universities and have a go at a wide variety of subjects – many of which are not taught in school. LIFT OFF Student Volunteers are employed to help out with the week.
The students play an essential role during the week. Each is responsible for a small group of pupils, and will play a big part in helping people to settle in on the first day. They are there as a friendly face, to be a first point of contact and, importantly, to ensure everyone is at their lectures on time (we like to give them a challenge!). Of course, the students are also great role models, and are able to give pupils information on what student life is really like - straight from the horse's mouth.
People who have been on LO2S in the past go back to school much better informed about college and university and about student life. They tend to be much more open-minded about what they want to do in the future - seeing higher education as a real and viable option for them.
They also have loads of new pals!
LO2S has been running since 2006.
